Wean Pig Care Specialist- Oracle Pork -Indiana Packers Corporation REMOTE (Indiana or Ohio)

The Wean Pig Care Specialist will be responsible for early wean pig care,
starting performance and early wean pig research. Assisting wean to finish Technician and
IPC contract swine producers implementing the SOP for starting weaned pigs. The primary
focus will be day 1 placement to 8 weeks of age in the wean to finish production system.
The wean pig care specialist will report directly to IPC production tech responsible for the
wean to finish facility.

Core Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.


• Pre-fill audit and SOP plan is complete prior to pig arrival
• The Wean Pig Care Specialist will provide additional training and educate contract
swine producers and staff in the areas of sick or injured pig identification, starve
out or fall behind pig identification and individual pig treatment.
• Assist Swine Technician at sites with caretaker performance issues
• The Weaned Pig Care Specialist may, at times, work without the contract grower
present and would be responsible for identifying, pulling, and treating opportunity
pigs (sick, injured, starve outs).
• The ability to identifying pigs early and start proper treatment is essential.
• Provide feedback on gruel, gruel products, support information if change is
requested.
• Support Technician with grading and sorting in their absence.
• Evaluate pig health, condition upon receipt at facility, provide medication guidance
in accordance with labeled instruction.
• Provide insight and feedback to IPC on animal welfare support, violations, and
opportunities for changes.
• Perform process management work to promote teamwork and continuous
improvement
• Identify process improvements
• Validate the on-farm vaccination schedule is followed and the process complete
• Follow on-farm biosecurity SOP as prescribed by veterinarians
• Provide wean pig support over multiple territories
• Responsible to communicate problems / issues with site to Swine Technician
• Perform research or special projects essential to wean pig performance
Supervisory Responsibilities for Success:
• Carries out daily responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and
applicable law.
• Manage facility daily care, communicate daily with growers, Swine Technician and
AMVC.
• Influence the actions of others in desired direction to meet objectives
• Work with staff and growers to build moral, positive energy, and committed to
goals and objectives
• Able to make decisions, problem solve, exhibit judgement in a systematic approach
to decision making
• Self-starter, motivated, well organized.

Qualification Requirements:
• Knowledge in commercial swine production
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and related computer programs
• Frequent travel will be required to complete job requirements
• Be able to work in confined livestock facility daily


Education and or Experience:
• B.S. Animal Science or previous related work experience
• Previous training on piglet observation and treatments
• Performed previous swine research


Language Skills:
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a diverse
group of individuals including growers and grower's personnel
• Ability to present information to IPC staff, organize and collect data for review
• Good verbal and written communication skills
Other Skills and Abilities:
• PC Skills including spread sheets and document software usage
• Understanding of the requirement of IPC operations and nutrition impact
• Good interpersonal and analytical skills
• Work in environment exposed to odor, dust, and various temperatures
