Operations Intern Multiple Locations


Position Summary


An Intern will spend several weeks rotating through a variety of Operations Departments from a Plant Operations role to gain a solid understanding of our progressive meat packing operation. The intern will also be exposed to various functional departments (HR, Safety, Procurement, Quality Assurance, and Industrial Engineering) during this intensive training period.


Upon conclusion of their initial training, they will be placed at the discretion of the Director of Quality Assurance and Plant Manager to assist with a project or work as a Operations Manager In Training in the facility. This position will provide the intern a general overview of the operations at Indiana Packers Corporation, Quincy Street or Specialty Foods Group and the meat packing industry.

Location (s): Holland MI, West Lafayette, IN or Owensboro, KY

Core Responsibilities

  • Spend significant time working and observing several departments in Operations while demonstrating a strong desire to succeed as a trainee.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with various levels of management including other supervisors, superintendents, Human Resources, Procurement, Industrial Engineering, etc.
  • Utilizes strong communication skills to properly coach and guide team members to resolve pork processing production issues and creates and ensures corrective actions are implemented and followed.
  • Responsible for creating a high morale workplace with the highest ethical standards by treating all team members with dignity and respect.
  • Manage the completion of projects as determined by the supervisor or designee.
  • Ensures all proper pork processing procedures (quality, safety, etc...) are adhered to and not compromised.
  • Acts in a professional manner and exhibits good leadership traits.
  • Monitors and takes appropriate timely improvement actions necessary to meet production quality and quantity goals.
  • Utilize problem solving techniques, teamwork building strategies and process control tools to meet or exceed the production schedule.
  • Conduct, lead, or implement the appropriate process audits; the audits will identify the need for the appropriate containment, corrective, and preventive actions, leading to minimizing or eliminating process deviations and non-conforming product root causes.
  • Maintain team member compliance of company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping through the application of fair and consistent accountability methods.
  • Participate and oversee pre-operation process of department or area as directed.

Position Requirements

  • Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in a Regionally Accredited University majoring in Animal, Meat, or Food Science, Supervision, or other related field of study
  • Ability to multi-task in a work a fast-paced environment
  • Strong literacy skills, both written and oral
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Ability to work on a variety of shifts, but likely 1st or 2nd Shift
  • Available to work daily and or weekly overtime
  • Strong commitment to organization
  • Follows company policies and ethical standards
  • Strong decision-making abilities
