Director of Engineering - West Lafayette, IN area


Indiana Packers Corporation is currently looking for highly effective leader who will hold responsibility for two manufacturing locations in Indiana while functioning as a leader for the Engineering Department based in our Delphi, Indiana corporate headquarters. The Director of Engineering serves as our primary engineering interface with company leadership, internal stakeholders, and external customers

The Director of Engineering will plan, manage, and direct implementation of the overall product roadmap and product development engineering activities for our dynamic pork processing operations. Coordinate the creation, development, design, and improvement of operations in conformance with established programs and objectives. Provide engineering advice and assistance to other departments as required.

Core Responsibilities:

The Director of Engineering must manage their team in all aspects of projects, including the safety, quality, organization, planning, scheduling, subcontractor scheduling, and day-to-day issues. In addition, the individual must ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and in a quality manner.


A Director of Engineering must efficiently manage the following:


  • Leading Program Engineering teams or department including planning, research & development, and execution of all tasking on projects
  • Facilitate pre-bid meetings, contact subcontractors, and prepare scope of work documents in support of the company's project estimating efforts
  • Responsibilities will include managing the design and execution (i.e. scope, schedule, budget and staffing) of projects as well as the development, implement and improvement of engineering processes
  • Manage external environmental and engineering firms as needed
  • Oversees the preparing bid packages, issuance of contract documents and invoice approval
  • Drives continuous improvement & quality accountability through productivity and quality measures, process training, and process rigor
  • Manages project cost/budgets; regularly reviews and updates project and labor costs, processes change orders in a timely fashion, makes suggestions on improving overall productivity and cost savings
  • Align resources and processes for project execution to meet technical performance objectives within schedule and cost constraints
  • Overseeing asset management with internal accounting function
  • Provides technical and engineering services, and assists in resolving design issues
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of submitted documents against contract drawings and specifications
  • Close out estimates, complete post-construction checks, complete as built and review contractor invoices
  • Communicates with construction foremen, engineers, inspectors, estimators, and other company personnel
  • Communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, with other company personnel and the customer as required
  • Organize staff and assign work for both personnel development and product development
  • Leads organizational growth by building strong relationships across business and functional boundaries
  • Interfaces with local, state, and federal regulators/inspectors as needed

Position Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 10 or more years of leadership experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Experience in slaughtering and or protein processing operations or processes is preferred
  • Ability to easily read and understand blueprints and specifications
  • Ability to multi-task by overseeing several projects
  • Highly motivated, organized, and a self-starter
  • Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and reporting practices is required
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends is required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or Inventor is required
  • Leads by example and follows company policies and ethical standards
  • Ability to travel on short notice, both domestically and abroad
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Lafayette, Indiana area

Preferred:

  • Graduate Degree in Engineering with 8 or more years of leadership experience in manufacturing engineering
  • Excellent Management and Communication skills is preferred
  • Knowledge of water, steam, and compressed air systems is preferred
  • Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) is preferred
  • General knowledge of electrical and control systems is preferred
  • General understanding of NEC code, EPA, and OSHA and their best practices is preferred
  • General understanding of mechanical design is preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office Software Packages, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is preferred
